Shuffleboard Table Size: Lengths, Dimensions and Room Size

A shuffleboard table is narrow but long, so the question is never whether it fits across the room. It is whether the room is long enough for the table plus a player standing at each end. These are the standard lengths, the room each one needs, and how to get one through the door.

Quick answer: a regulation shuffleboard table is 22 ft long with a 20 in wide playfield, about 31 in wide across the cabinet and 30 in high. Home tables run from 9 to 22 ft, and 12 to 16 ft is the most popular range. Leave 2½ ft at each end as a minimum, or 3 ft to be comfortable, so a 12 ft table needs a room 17 to 18 ft long.

Room lengths are McClure Tables' minimum and recommended figures. The 22 ft length, 20 in playfield and 12 to 16 ft home range are from McClure Tables and Shuffleboard.net; the 31 in cabinet, 30 in height and 20 ft 8 in playfield are the Champion Capri's, from Shuffleboard Federation. Home cabinet widths are the Hathaway Challenger's and Playcraft Woodbridge's listed sizes. McClure says the table needs no space at its sides beyond the cabinet; the 2 to 3 ft walkway is Wayfair's guide for people standing alongside.

How to work out what fits

  1. Measure the clear length of the room along the wall the table will run beside, stopping at anything that sticks out: a door frame, a radiator or the end of a sofa.
  2. Take off 6 ft for 3 ft at each end, or 5 ft for the 2½ ft minimum. The longest standard length that fits what is left is your table.
  3. The table can run close to a wall, since players stand at the ends. Leave 2 to 3 ft on the open side so people can walk past or watch. If you add an electronic scoring unit on a pole, move the cabinet 3 to 4 in off the wall to clear it.
  4. Check the way in. Tables over 12 ft are usually built in two pieces, and a 22 ft cabinet can come in three. A standard interior door is 32 x 80 in, and long sections need a straight run through it, so measure any tight turns in a hallway or stairs.
  5. Check the floor. A 12 ft home table like the Playcraft Woodbridge weighs about 260 lb, but a solid maple 22 ft regulation table can weigh over 1,200 lb assembled.

Wax and lighting

A shuffleboard playfield needs shuffleboard powder (also sold as sand or wax) sprinkled on before play so the pucks glide; powders come in speed grades, so match the grade to your table's length. Light the full length of the playfield evenly, since the scoring zones sit at the far end from the player throwing.

Shuffleboard table size FAQ

How long is a shuffleboard table?

A regulation table is 22 feet long with a 20 inch wide playfield. Home tables come in lengths from 9 to 22 feet, and 12 to 16 feet is the most popular range for home game rooms.

How much room do you need for a shuffleboard table?

Add 2½ feet at each end as a minimum, or 3 feet to be comfortable. A 12 foot table needs a room 17 to 18 feet long, a 16 foot table 21 to 22 feet, and a 22 foot table 27 to 28 feet. Across the room you need the cabinet's width, about 2 to 2½ feet, plus a walkway.

What size shuffleboard table should I get?

Measure the room's clear length, take off 6 feet and buy the longest table that fits. Then check the way in: tables over 12 feet usually come in two pieces, and a standard interior door is 32 by 80 inches.
